Work-based learning is a strategic approach to building and retaining your future workforce. These programs provide real-life workplace experience and exposure to industries, occupations, and companies, creating career pathways to livable and higher-wage jobs.

We can connect you with local organizations and program partners to link talent to internships, apprenticeship preparation, and apprenticeship opportunities. Explore current apprenticeship programs and apprentices in WA State and WIOA funding to support apprenticeship.

Types of Work-Based Learning

  • Apprenticeships: Structured programs combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction.
  • Pre-Apprenticeships: Programs preparing individuals for apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Work Experience and Internships: Short-term opportunities for hands-on experience.
  • Transitional Jobs: Time-limited, wage-paid work experiences.
  • On-The-Job Training (OJT): Hire and train skilled workers with reimbursement for training costs.
  • Customized Training: Tailored training programs for specific business needs.
  • Incumbent Worker Training (IWT): Upskill current employees to retain and advance within your company.

Eligible groups include veterans, justice-involved candidates, persons with disabilities, and long-term unemployed individuals.
